Dr. Mukesh Kumar Gupta is the Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology (UK), National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), National Academy of Dairy Sciences (NADS), National Academy of Biological Sciences (NABS), National Academy of Environmental Sciences (NAES), Indian Association for Advancement of Veterinary Research (IAAVR), Academy of Environment and Life Sciences (AELS) and Society of Applied Biotechnology (SAB). He is an Executive Member of the Council of Asian Science Editors (CASE), HERITAGE Network (France), and Editorial Board Member of a few SCI-indexed Journals. He is known for his research on animal cloning, transgenics, in vitro spermatogenesis by tissue engineering, a quick method to detect DNA fragmentation, and solid surface vitrification. His work on modified solid surface vitrification is used world-wide for cryopreservation of pig oocytes and embryos.< |

He was topper in the subject during his PhD programme and was awarded gold medal by the university in the IInd convocation of University in 2017. Has worked on genotyping, virulence characterization and antimicrobial resistance gene determinants from various zoonotically important bacterial species. He received Young Scientists Award in the 3rd Annual National Seminar on Translational Research in Biotechnology for Improving Animal Health and Production held during 7-8 october, 2015. Joined the National Center for Laboratory Animal Sciences, National Institute of Nutrition, Indian Council of Medical Research in January, 2017 as Scientist-B and is presently associated with lab animal experimentation and laboratory animal health monitoring for quality research. in the field of veterinary microbiology at ICAR-IVRI, U.P. During his research period, he obtained expertise in working with risk group 2 and 3-level zoonotic pathogens. He had experience in the development of genome-edited vaccines for BSL3 bacterial
pathogens. He has conducted numerous small and large animal experiments for newly developing vaccine candidates for zoonotic
and veterinary pathogens such as Brucella sp., Clostridium sp., Leptospira sp., Rabies and Bluetongue virus. His endeavors also involved the isolation, characterization, and analysis of antimicrobial resistance in various bacterial pathogens. He was Scientist D at DBT-THSTI, Faridabad; Scientist at AgriGenome Labs, Cochin; Postdoctoral fellow at Seoul National University, South Korea and Research associate at IUCBR, Kerala.
At IVRI, Dr. Pramod worked in animal transgenesis via sperm and testis mediated gene transfer methods. During the postdoc period, he worked in ‘Development of germ cell transfer technique using quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) SSC as a model for restoration of endangered birds’ project. At AgriGenome, Dr. Pramod and the team for the first time revealed the Indian cattle complete mitogenome and sequenced the whole genome of Bos indicus. At THSTI, he established mouse germplasm cryopreservation facility and involved in quality control (genetic and health monitoring of laboratory animals) and the lab animal training programs. He also worked in mouse models for reproductive and metabolic disorders. In one of his projects, he assessed the role of small RNAs in the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes mellitus. Dr. Pramod is currently working on preclinical research and developing genetically engineered animal models for human diseases. |
